IPL 2023 : Teams Preview – GT vs MI [Match -35]

The Gujarat Titans will host the Mumbai Indians in Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After a convincing start to the campaign the Gujarat Titans are placed at the No.4 spot in the points table with 4 wins out of their 6 games. On the Contrary, Mumbai Indians have balanced out their wins with the losses after a hat-trick of wins before losing to the Punjab Kings in their last game.

If we look at the last 5 games of both the Teams Gujarat has been a little off-and-on as they have won alternate games. Nevertheless, Mumbai Indians Have also taken to winning ways with a hat-trick of wins until their last face-off versus the Punjab Kings. The Journey so far for both teams has been quite opposite as Mumbai Indians started their campaign with losses whereas Gujarat just picked up from where they Had left off.

For MI everything has started to fall into place and Cameron Green Has found his rhythm after a shaky start to his campaign. He has scored some crucial runs for them when it mattered the most, especially in his last 2 innings where he got 50+ scores with an impressive strike rate. He has also scalped a few wickets and proved to be a Handy All-rounder.

How have Mumbai Players been so far?

Let us take a glance right from the Top order of the Mumbai Indians starting with Ishan Kishan – He has been going well in terms of his strike Rate which is 141.67 this season. Kishan has got a good start in almost every game except for the games he played against RCB and PBKS. He has been able to convert those starts into a 50+ score only once versus the Kolkata Knight riders. He should find a way for himself to convert the starts into big scores.

Rohit Sharma – The MI Skipper has also got a few quick-fire 20s and 40s this season but has been able to make it count only on 1 such occasion against the Delhi Capitals. He has batted with a strike rate of 142.06 This season. He will have a crucial role in MI’s batting line-up and make it a big one as Gujarat Titans will be eager to send him back as quickly as possible in the anticipation of the issues they will have if he scores Big.

SuryaKumar Yadav – After a lot of ups-and-downs SurkyaKumar Yadav has finally come in touch with his normal self as he has scored his 1st fifty of the season vs Punjab Kings with a strike rate of almost 219. He should be looking to continue to capitalize on the start that he got from the last game and could be dangerous for the Titans as he spends more time out in the middle.

If MI has to win this game against Titans it will be important for the Mumbai Indians to get performances from the Indian trio of Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav. Along with them they will definitely hope to get the best of Cameron Green, Jofra Archer, and Piyush Chawla who has been in the groove for them.

Who will make it count for Gujarat Titans?

We need to look at a few players before could answer that question. The in-form players of the Gujarat Titans when it came to their batting were Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha. This Opening pair has sensibly made a contribution where Saha Will be the one trying to up the Run-rate and Shubman Gill will Anchor and Bat through the Innings.

Skipper Hardik Pandya is Also warmed up with his batting after the 66(50) vs Lucknow Super Giants. So far Gujarat has got a few new faces in the form of Noor Ahmed who has not missed out on grabbing his chance and will be further looked at going Ahead. Mohit Sharma has scalped 4 wickets in the 3 matches that he played with a mind-boggling economy of 4.67 and an average of 10.50, he will be crucial in the death and powerplay as it was his efforts with the ball, which led Gujarat Titans to defend the least total of the season.

Match-ups to look for!

Rohit Sharma vs Rashid Khan: This has been one of the most exciting Match-ups in the IPL where Rashid Khan has comfortably won against Rohit Sharma. In IPL Rohit has faced Rashid in 5 innings where he has managed only 23 runs from 21 balls at a average of 7.66. He has lost his wicket to Rashid in 3 of the 5 innings that he played against him.

Shubman Gill vs Jofra Archer: Shubman Gill has been in good form with a decent strike rate and an average but he will have to survive Jofra Archer’s pace attack as he has not been able to prevent himself from getting dismissed on 2 occasions in the IPL Meanwhile Jofra Will be keen to dismiss him again as he had an edge over Gill earlier.

Conclusion:

This Match isn’t going to be a 1 sided one as the teams are well balanced with Plenty of options to choose from. There will be many small contests that we might get to see in the different stages of the game. In the end, plans can be many but everything will be relevant only when the execution is right in the field. It will not be a surprise if we get to see some new performers who will lead their teams over the line instead of some of the players that we discussed.
